ABOUT MOVING MEDITATION
December 2025 Newsletter
Moving Meditation is a series of gentle exercises that will create harmony between the mind and body. I attended a class at the Seaford Library along with my wife Celeste 5 years ago. It was at the start of Covid; the class was huge and had too many students at the start of this pandemic. I in-formed the teacher that I would learn her program and branch off to reduce the number of people at-tending. With the onset of Covid it was a full stop. The current teacher resumed for several years, then retired and moved out of state. She asked if I would teach the class and I said yes. It's good exercise and I needed exercise in my old age and thought it wouldn't hurt.
Along with slow controlled movements I included some movements of Tai Chi. Tai Chi improves balance through slow deliberate movements that build leg strength, back and neck relaxation, flexibility and ankle stability thus improving balance.
Many moves seem repetitive in nature but improve the flexibility of overall movements for your entire body. Moving Meditation helps improve reflexes which can aid in maintaining balance when faced with uneven surfaces. I always perform my exercises bare foot. You can really feel the muscles in your feet assisting in balancing your body.
The names of these movements are interesting such as: Open the window and Gaze at the moon, Butterfly to flower, Puppet, Flying Eagle, Torso twist, Chi Qong Snake, Cloud Hands, Push the wave and many many more. Each move takes concentration, some more than others, to assist your movement.
Come give it a try, nothing jarring, no stomping, and listen to gentle music to help calm your mind.

A note from Inquiring Minds
Jerry’s class is every Friday at 9:00am. I strongly recommend that we, as seniors, give this form of exercise a try. At our age, almost any safe form of exercise we should try, to help our mind as well as body. If you don’t like it, then quit, but do give it a fair try. It’s your body and I don’t think you will regret it.
