OUR TWO STANDOUTS

Inquiring Minds
There is not a person on the Nanticoke Senior Center staff who is not worth their weight in gold but there are two people who really stand out (yet are behind the scenes most of the time.) Kerry Hall and Nelson Alston. Kerry came on board in 2017 and Nelson in 2018. They are our Maintenance Specialists! I interviewed some of the staff regarding these two (who are behind the scenes al-most always). Here are a couple of comments: "I think Nelson and Kerry are tops!”, "They do every-thing you ask of them—they keep this place looking good—and they are really pleasant with everyone.”,

"Nelson goes out of his way with the fitness room people. ”(hhmmmm I have to check that one out.) "There isn’t anything they won’t do” (note: again from me, except wash my windows at my house; I keep asking but they smile and just go on…drat it, the Center’s windows always look good). "Kerry and Nelson are a major part of the NSC Infrastructure.” Most of the time these two will be the last two to leave the Center, making sure all is clean and back in place…..again.

Both have excellent attitudes, especially when asked to do something NOT in their job description, and talk about an ornery streak-just to make things fun-they both have it! There is not an evening event that they are not a part of. Great players on a great team. Oh, and on their days off, you can probably find them both fishing. They love the Nanticoke with a fishing rod in their hand and some bait on the end of their line; They are two happy kids loving life.

Another past worker of the Center is now going to be a famous artist. I’m talking about Brenda Holbrook. If you were not aware: #1. Brenda worked part time in the Center’s kitchen, #2. She is a quilter (a mighty fine quilter), and now she is going to be famous. I mean, just how many of you have been written up and photographed for a Nationally published book? Brenda has, and she will be in the Quiltfolk book published in Eugene, Oregon for January 2026.

Members of the book visited Brenda last week and took pictures of her home, Brenda herself, and many of her quilts. To order one of these books you can go to: www.quiltfolk.com. The book is to be published in January 2026, with Brenda in it, along with other quilters from Delaware. I have actually seen one of these beautiful books (no ads-just quilting). Congratulations Brenda and I am happy to say I own one of her quilts! Shine girl! We are glad to say "WE KNOW HER!”
