State Fair Fun Facts
1. The Delaware State Fair began in 1920 as the "Kent and Sussex County Fair" and is held annually in Harrington. Originally span-ning just 4 days and 30 acres, it has grown into a 10-day summer staple encompassing over 300 acres, featuring agricultural exhib-its, national concerts, and the Harrington Raceway & Casino. In 1962 the name was changed to reflect it’s statewide popularity.

2. The fair was canceled from 1942 to 1945 due to World War II, and the fairgrounds were used to house German prisoners of war.

3. Remarkably, aside from the WWII years, the fair has continued uninterrupted, even man-aging to host modifications during the 2020 pandemic.

4. When the first fair opened on July 27, 1920, adult admission was 50 cents, children (ages 6 to 12) paid 25 cents, and vehicle parking cost 25 cents.
